WithBetty exists because the books we needed for our own children didn't exist or were too hard to find. So, we wanted to make it better for others. Here's our story and vision.
Who is Betty?
When Chloe and Brian started building this platform, they discovered they had something in common beyond their belief in this work. They each had a Betty — Chloe's mother-in-law, and Brian's mother — two women who were kind, loving, and completely without judgment. Women who were devoted to children and their development, who always seemed to know the right resource, the right book, the right person to call.
To us, Betty represents the person every child and family deserves to have in their corner. A warm hand to hold. Someone who listens without judgment. Who loves children fiercely and knows exactly where to find the help they need.
We built this to honor the Bettys in our lives, and for every family who needs a Betty of their own.
Why we exist
When a child faces cancer, a parent's illness, a new diagnosis, or family upheaval, they often feel like the only child in the world going through it. Existing children's media rarely reflect these experiences — and when families go looking, they find resources scattered, unsorted, and impossible to navigate in an already overwhelming moment.
WithBetty closes that gap on two fronts: we curate the best of what exists across every topic and format, and we create original personalized stories — so every child sees themselves reflected back, and every caregiver knows where to turn.
Our approach
WithBetty is both a curator and a creator — connecting families to the best of what already exists, and building original stories for the experiences that don't.
A curated, clinician-reviewed and community-vetted directory of existing children's media — books, podcast episodes, video content, and apps — organized by topic, age range, format, and cultural context.
For the experiences with no existing story — or no story that reflects this specific child. Your child's name, race, family structure, and situation woven into every page, because specificity is the point.
Every story arc and every resource selection is guided by evidence-based frameworks from child psychology, developmental theory, and grief research. The narrative structure is the therapy — without ever feeling clinical.
We focus on experiences underrepresented in children's media — the child whose parent has cancer, the child navigating a new autism diagnosis, the grieving child who feels invisible. Hard times deserve good resources.
The founders
WithBetty was built by two founders who came to this work through their own lives — and bring decades of professional experience to the mission.
Chloe has spent nearly two decades in the social impact space as a strategist, systems builder, and innovator — working across health, education, and wellbeing. She co-founded WithBetty out of her own experience as a parent navigating her daughter's developmental challenges. She is an SVP at NationSwell, where she builds communities and partnerships with leading companies and foundations to advance social, economic, and environmental progress.
Brian's work centers on leveraging emerging technologies to educate children while keeping them safe. He co-founded Hello Wonder — acquired by Noggin/Paramount in March 2023 — to pioneer the use of AI to curate high-quality online resources for kids and block harmful content.
With 20+ years delivering family product innovation across entertainment, technology, and education, Brian brings the rare combination of deep technical expertise and genuine commitment to children's wellbeing that the personalization engine at the heart of WithBetty requires.
Clinical Advisory Board
WithBetty stories are developed in consultation with medical experts, social workers, counselors, and child development specialists. We are actively building our formal advisory board.
Pediatric physicians, oncologists, and specialists who inform how we represent medical experiences accurately and compassionately
Pediatric oncology social workers, hospital-based social workers, and family services specialists who understand the real impact on families
Grief counselors, child life specialists, and pediatric therapists who work directly with children navigating hard experiences
Specialists in developmental milestones, narrative-based learning, and age-appropriate communication across the early childhood continuum
Work with us
WithBetty is built on the belief that no family should navigate hard times alone — and neither should we. We're actively looking for partners who share that mission.
